A Leprechaun trap

This leprechaun trap is called the "Push It for Gold" trap. Here are the things that you will need. You will need a box like a milk carton for a house, green letter stickers, light green tape, white paper, crayons, scissors, cotton balls, AND some St. Patrick’s Day decorations. Take the box of milk and light green tape.  Tape the box of milk (make sure the milk is not still in the box so when the leprechaun goes in there it won't drown.) Then you have to cut a square lid on top of the box of milk. Next you have to take the green letter stickers and put the words: "Push for Gold." Then put the decorations on the milk box. Next glue the tooth picks on the front side where the sign is. Then take a piece of paper and cut it into strips. Next color each strip red, orange, yellow,

green, blue, and purple. Then glue the

strips on top of the milk box.  Finally,

glue the cotton balls on the side of the

rainbow.  GOOD LUCK!

Interview with Mrs. Hebert

We got to interview Mrs. Hebert.  Read all about it below!

We asked if her kids went to this school, she said no.  We asked what her personality is like…and she said active. She said the 5th Grade was ready for Middle School.  She has suspended a kid once.  She loves all the grades and doesn’t have a 'worst classroom.'  She hasn’t decided who to vote for President. She felt excited when she started her job - this wasn’t her first job. She loves all the teachers/staff here at Drewicz. All of the students are her favorite!!

This was our fun interview with Mrs. Hebert!

Interesting Mr. Dube Facts

“Hmmm,”   Mr. Dube was thinking.  His first name is Donald.  He was born in the U.S.A., more specifically in New England.  He is 54 years old but he looks very young (we need to find his beauty secrets.)  He has two siblings – a brother and sister. He is also not a father but he loves all the kids at Drewicz. When he was a little kid, he thought he would be a teacher.  The weird thing is that Mr. Dube never thought about being a janitor, his dream was to be an astronaut!  So the first thing we asked Mr. Dube is how long he stays to clean and he answered, “40 hours each week.” In my opinion, that is a very long time to stay and clean!!  Can you believe that? We also asked him what kind of equipment he uses He told us, “Dry mops, hand tools, bins, and two wheelers.” We really don’t know what some of those are.  But it is still very interesting.  He has been working as a janitor for 13 years so I think he is a pro at being a janitor.  He has worked at Breed Middle School, Marshall, Lynn Woods, and Fallon.  He might not be seen, but I promise you he is the best!  I know everyone loves him. His favorite place to clean is our office, which is beautiful. I mostly love that when he gets out of work he feels happy which in my opinion makes me happy.  I was expecting him to say that he was tired but he said, “Happy.”  Yay!

I hope you loved or liked this story…and take my advice – say thank you to your janitor the next time you see him!

Lulu the Lamb and Ruby the Rabbit

Go on an Adventure!

One day Ruby the Rabbit and Lulu the Lamb decided to go explore the forest. They saw tall trees and many animals. There was Fiona the Fox, Oscar the Owl, Sunny the Sloth, Marissa the Moose, and her brother Max the Moose. Ruby and Lulu continued to walk down the path until they reached the river. Just then Sean the Snake jumped out of the bushes and hissed at them. The 2 animals ran away and into the deep forest. They ran through the trees calling for help. Suddenly, Kyle the Crocodile pops out of nowhere and startled the girls. “You’re not going anywhere!” said Kyle.

“Hey! Let them go!” screamed Fiona.  Kyle got scared and ran away with Sean.  They both were never seen again.

The End

Coming soon:  4th Grade Field Trip...

By Laura

The whole fourth grade is going on a field

trip. We are going to tap trees for some

maple syrup. We are going to eat popcorn

and pancakes. I think it is going to be really

fun and I can’t wait to get there.  I will tell

you more in the next edition!

The Spelling Bee

At the spelling bee I was so nervous that I was shaking.  There were 44 kids from all different schools there!  They called me up to spell the first word. I was correct.  But on the word,  "strategy"... I spelt it wrong!  It was not good.  I had to wait for an eighth grader and a third grader to finish spelling their words. I got bored.  But I actually ended up having fun because we got to eat pizza and drink Pepsi. I also got a Barnes and Noble gift card.  Someo f my teachers even came - I saw Mrs. Hebert, Mrs. Winslow, Mrs. Rondeau, and Mrs. Ward.

  • Use paper clips to find the end of a tape roll easily

  • Clean out an old lotion bottle for your beach bag and put your phone, money and keys in it for safer keeping at the beach

  • Use a (clean) dustpan to fill a container that doesn’t fit in a sink

  • Use the heat from your laptop to keep your cup warm longer

  • Running low batteries? Put your phone on airplane mode and it’ll charge faster.

  • How to clean a blender...? First put liquid soap in the blender. Next put water in it. Then put the cap on the blender and turn on the blender. Rinse it out with water and you’re done!

  • Putting your car alarm remote under your chin increases its range

  • Bend a post-it note to catch dust from drilling

  • Use clothes pins to prevent your toothbrush from touching dirty counters when traveling

  • If you don’t have a recipe
book holder - use a pants
    hanger

  • Take the stem off a strawberry - put a straw though the middle

  • Need a chip saver?  use the pants hanger from Macys, snap off the clip from the bottom of the hanger

  • Building something and don’t want to get hurt? Use a clothespin to insert nails to prevent hurting yourself.

  • Put your money in a sanitary napkin package before putting it in your purse, and no one will steal it because they wouldn’t think your money would be in a sanitary napkin.

5th Grade Math PARCC

By Laura

I am so proud of the fifth graders because they just finished the ELA PARCC test on 4/28/16.  They have been preparing for this for a long time. I hope they all did a great job and have a great rest of the year!

All about Drewicz

Drewicz is very big with a lot of memories made here.  Lots of students go to Drewicz. Our old principal, Mrs. Stamm would give us awards to be the Player of the Week, Player of the Month, and Team of the Week. In 2014 Mrs.Stamm announced that she will retire. So everyone wanted to say goodbye on the third to last day of school . In 2015, we got a new principal named Mrs. Hebert. The art teacher, and the music teacher, left so there is a new music teacher named Mrs. Skinner and a new art teacher named Ms. Mandel. Both of them are cool and teach us brand new stuff that is very cool. In 2015 new teachers came to Drewicz!  Last year,  the 3rd grade, 4th grade,  and 5th grade had MCAS. Now this year, the  3rd, 4th, and 5th grades are doing a test called PARCC.

There is good stuff here in Drewicz. I LOVE DREWICZ SCHOOL!

DREWICZ CLASSROOM DOORS

By Laura & Christopher

There are a bunch of beautiful doors in Drewicz School that teachers and students created together! It was hard work for them to make these great doors. First we have a fifth grade door from Mrs. Adario’s class. There is also Mrs. Lenihan’s classroom door. The kids and Mrs. Lenihan put a lot of effort in to it.  Mrs. Ward’s class did a great job on the door of the book Diary of a Wimpy Kid Old School.  Mrs. Morris’s class did a magnificent job on the door .They put lots of decorations on the door.

All the classes did a spectacular job!

The Boston Marathon

The Boston marathon was founded in 1856.  Lots of people joined the marathon, taking place in Boston, Massachusetts. There are 26 miles, 385 yards and 42.195 kilometers. The day this year is: April 16th.  On the marathon day in 2013, something bad happened; there was a bomb while the people were running. Lots of people died or got injured. Two men named Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and Tamerlan Tsarnaev were the people who set the bombs.  One of them was killed and the other person is still alive. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was in a court holding cell on July 10th 2013 and then sent to prison.

3 Picture Day Outfits for Summer

Number 1: The first outfit for summer is a purple dress with flowers and a little sweater over it.  For the shoes, I would go for white high heels. Then for the jewelry I would go a simple multicolor bracelet.

Number 2: The second is more of an elegant outfit.  For the dress you could wear a red dress. For the shoes I would recommend to ask where the picture will be taken. And depending on where you go that’s the shoes you should wear. But if you’re going to be in a hallway or something you should wear white high heels.

Last outfit idea: This is for a formal picture day. For the summer I think you should wear a simple but cute dress at the same time. So I went with a white and gray dress with a yellow sweater. I like the combination of colors with this outfit. And finally for the shoes, I would wear some brown flats.

April First In Different Countries

By: Kianny Villar & Nasley Severino

United Kindom

In the UK (United Kingdom) an April Fool’s joke is revealed by shouting “April Fool”. Then a receiver becomes the April Fool. In the 1950’s, a study by folklorists Iona and Peter Opie, found that in the UK and other countries, traditions were based on a person playing a joke on someone.

Ireland

In Ireland it was a traditional to entrust the victim with an “important letter” to be given to a named person. That person would then ask the victim to take it to someone else, and so on. The letter when finally opened contained the words “send the fool further.”

Poland

In Poland, prima aprilis ("1 April" in Latin) is a day in which many jokes are told; various jokes are played by people, media (which sometimes happens to make the "information" more credible.) Serious activities are usually avoided. This is so popular that the anti-Turkish alliance with Leopold I signed on April 1, 1683, was backdated to March 31.

Nordic countries

Danes, Finns, Icelanders, Norwegians and Swedes celebrate April Fools' Day (aprilsnar in Danish; aprillipäivä in Finnish). Most news media outlets will publish exactly one false story on April 1; for newspapers this will typically be a first-page article but not the top headline.

April Fish

In Italy, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, and French-speaking areas of Switzerland and Canada, April 1 tradition is often known as "April fish" (poissons d'avril in French, aprilvis in Dutch or pesce d'aprile in Italian). This includes attempting to attach a paper fish to the victim's back without being noticed. Such fish featured prominently on many late 19th- to early 20th-century French April Fools' Day postcards. Many newspapers also spread a false story on April Fools' Day, and a subtle reference to a fish is sometimes given as a clue.

India

In India, there have been a bunch of references to April Fools' Day in both movies and books and people are happy. In Bollywood movies, one is called April Fool (1964 film). You can see April Fools in other things, too.

Romania

In Romania, an April Fool joke is revealed by shouting "Păcăleală de 1 Aprilie!" at the person, who becomes the "April fool", which means "April 1 hoax!"
